Christmas is here… How to keep on track this Christmas
The Christmas period is well known for plumping us up and making our fitness goals look far less likely to be achieved and often results in a downward spiral until the new year where the typical “New year, new me” attitude is incorporated.
This often results in our inhibitions being lowered during days leading up to Christmas, causing failure to resist food and drink that we usually stay away from on normal days.
If your goal is to lose weight, we have already touched on the fact in previous blogs that as long as you are in a calorie deficit (burning more calories than you consume) you will lose weight. This is easily achieved through an active lifestyle. Consistency with this idea will keep us on track of our goals.
Many of you may be thinking that this philosophy is impossible to follow on Christmas day. Some Christmas dinners alone are more than likely to exceed your daily calorie target and that is without even thinking about the extra calories from chocolate and alcohol!
Well… you’re right. Enjoy your day and don’t hold back. One day is not going to destroy all of your progress and training. Ensure that on the less important days around the Christmas day to follow your training and nutrition programmes and don’t let yourself fall into the trap of starting again in the new year. Even if there is a slight hiccup in your progress… the damage could be reduced and will make that hill less steep to climb in 2018.
